In forthcoming Science paper, UC Merced’s Andy LiWang shows how the shift from nighttime to daytime biological functions depends on the unusual movements of a single protein
A third of all humans carry the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis — a disease commonly associated with cats, HIV-AIDS patients and pregnant women — with scientists long believing healthy immune systems control the parasite and prevent the disease from emerging.

Registration is required for participation in the HSRI Research Week presentation competition. The theme of this year's event is Translating Health Innovations: Bench to Bedside to the World and the event will take place in the Kolligian Library, Room KL232 (Chancellor's Conference Room) from 10:00am. Lunch will be provided.
In late August 2014 Professor Almeida was awarded the Best Published Article Award from the American Sociological Association (ASA) section on the Political Economy of the World System (PEWS) for his paper “Subnational Opposition to Globalization” published in the journal Social Forces. He was given the award during the ASA national meetings in San Francisco.
