The Health Sciences Research Institute (HSRI) is one of two UC Merced signature Organized Research Units. The goal of the Health Sciences Research Institute is to catalyze important new research on complex human health issues, while simultaneously leading the nation in multidisciplinary, research-based education.
HSRI is poised to play a strong leadership role in the San Joaquin Valley and act as a bridge for cutting-edge health research and biotechnology industry partners.
HSRI seeks knowledge that will lead to solutions to the health issues affecting community well being in the San Joaquin Valley, the state and the world. Your contribution will support research for many of these health issues, including:
- Valley fever and asthma
- Childhood and adult obesity
- Diabetes
- Cancer prevention and control
- Hypertension and heart disease
- Risky teen behaviors and tobacco use
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases
- Hepatitis
HSRI forms synergistic research teams by leveraging the expertise found across our entire campus from the Schools of Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts.
HSRI also collaborates with local and regional healthcare providers as well as other UC campuses, such as UC Davis, UCSF and UCSF-Fresno, and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources to widen the span of our research.
