Po-Shu Tu
Graduate Student, Quantitative & Systems Biology, School of Natural Sciences
Advisors: Prof. Stephanie Woo, Prof. Stefan Materna

Po-Shu was born and raised in Taiwan. He earned his bachelor’s degree (2014) in Biomedical & Environmental Biology from Kaohsiung Medical University. During his undergraduate research in Dr. Bin Huang’s lab, he focused on how endothelial nitric oxide regulates cellular signaling via posttranslational modification. Po-Shu obtained his master’s degree (2017) in Physiology from National Yang-Ming University, where he studied how DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) regulate hematopoiesis in Dr. Yuan-I Chang’s lab.

In Spring 2021, Po-Shu joined the Quantitative and Systems Biology (QSB) program at the University of California, Merced. He works as an international PhD student in the QSB program and serves as a peer mentor in GRAD-EXCEL Peer Mentorship program. Po-Shu is currently co-mentored by Dr. Stefan C. Materna and Dr. Stephanie Woo. His doctoral project focuses on genes that regulate endoderm morphogenesis and gastrulation. The Materna & Woo Labs employ multiple methods, including transgenesis, biochemistry, and fluorescent microscopy, to study developmental biology using zebrafish embryos.
