Campus Efforts Improve Community’s Access to Healthy Foods

Hunger is a critical issue facing most of the nation and the world, but it’s even closer to home than some might think. At UC Merced, it's an issue that many students face, and one that researchers are seeking to understand.

Helping Students in Need

A systemwide survey last year found that four in 10 University of California students did not have a consistent source of high-quality, nutritious food — and at UC Merced it was even higher, with nearly half of those surveyed responding that they don’t have reliable access to wholesome food.

Growing Public Health Program Launches Standalone Ph.D.

UC Merced recently launched a new standalone Ph.D. program in Public Health, further establishing the university’s commitment to educating the next generation of scholars who are addressing the San Joaquin Valley’s unique health concerns.

The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (SSHA) previously offered a Ph.D. in social sciences with an emphasis in public health, but this optional track within the Social Sciences Graduate Group was never a standalone program.

Research on a Napkin: Feedback on Research Design

HSRI is partnering with Valley Children's Hospital to provide an opportunity for research-related consultation with our biostatistics, epidemiology, and research design experts. The goal is to come to the session with a research question in mind. After a presentation about HSRI and the available resources, investigators will meet with experts 1:1 for "back-of-the-napkin" style research guidance. Our goal is to help you get your research going!
