Professor Brown’s research interests include a number of areas relevant to health services research and public health.

  • Improving Public Health decision making using Behavioral Economics and Health Economics - He is currently leading a project to examine how behavioral and health economics can help improve public health decision making.
  • Needs analysis – He has conducted a number discrete choice experiments examining preferences for treatments and interventions. He also was the Principal Investigator for the UC Merced Farmworker Health study.
  • Return on investment and cost effectiveness evaluation – He has experience in conducting cost effectiveness analysis, return on investment, and resource based costing for a variety of clinical and public health interventions.

His research has been funded by government funding agencies (e.g., National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health), private foundations (e.g., Legacy Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and California Healthcare Foundation), and government agencies (e.g., California Department of Public Health and the Merced County Public Health Department, and includes projects on:

  • Farmworker health
  • Valley Fever
  • Behavioral Economics
  • Public health services research
  • Return on Investment and cost effectiveness analysis
