Dr. Yen’s research focuses on the social determinants of health, including place, housing, and education.

Dr. Yen has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods including survey research, survey development, intensive interview, and focus groups. She is currently collaborating with Fresno and Merced organizations on a housing justice project – supporting residents to organize to have sustained access to affordable climate resilient housing.

She is also working on an education and health project, exploring how state policies affect the type and timing of education attainment – when and how much education a person obtains. She co-leads an informal rural health working group comprised of faculty and graduate students in public health, psychology, and sociology.
